Are DSA Candidates Really Winning?

RSS Feed

Or, are normie Dems just losing?  At this juncture Donald J. Trump has permanently changed the Republican Party.  His second term is one of the greatest achievements in political history and places his stamp on the party indelibly.  He has defined a new issue set for the party to focus on and he has changed the way elections will be fought for a long time to come. He was, in no small part, elected on a wave of dissatisfaction with business as usual for Republicans in a “throw the bums out” sort of way.  Dissatisfaction with business as usual is a common theme amongst all voters and I wonder if it accounts for the DSA wave that is sweeping the Democratic Party as well.

Now, if you are a Democrat and you are fed up with business as usual, where do you turn?  As things stand, you either vote Republican or you vote DSA.  There is no Trumpian figure among the Dems to which you could turn.  There is only the far left – and if you are fed up enough….

I mean honestly, in this environment, turning Republican is just not done.  There is a lot of brand loyalty out there, but that does not really account for the fact that no one will ever jump ship.  Trump has been so demonized that for a Democrat to turn Republican would make Anakin Skywalker’s turn to the Dark Side look like child’s play.  In places like California, voting Republican is an exercise in futility anyway.  Any desire to change things would have to be done inside the party, and what are the alternatives?

Particularly when the normie Dems are just flat out corrupt.  You have Dems that had Chinese spies as drivers for years.  You have Dems that have clearly enriched themselves with their office.  You have Dems that see their job as to spread largesse across their favored NGOs – not actually solve problems.  The DSA are the outsiders inside the corrupt party.

For a long time now, Democrats have operated far more on feeling than issue.  They have marketed instead of debated.  They do not have anything substantial to offer.  At least the DSA has policy positions, onerous as they are.

Maybe the people voting DSA in the primaries are sending a message to the party and have no intention of voting DSA in the general?  Maybe there is method to the madness?  I actually find myself hoping there is.
