The discussion centers on the FBI's counterintelligence operation, codenamed Round River, which sought to discredit claims about Hunter Biden's dealings in Ukraine. Despite receiving information from 14 confidential human sources, the FBI chose to dismiss these allegations as Russian disinformation without verifying their accuracy. This operation included briefing media and officials to downplay the significance of the claims, even going as far as inserting disclaimers into informant files. The intelligence community's review has since flagged this operation as unusual and potentially politically motivated. FBI Director Christopher Wray has acknowledged concerns about the operation's conduct and has ended the task force responsible. An ongoing investigation into the actions of those involved may lead to administrative or criminal repercussions.
