Less than 48 hours after Republican Rep. Justin Amash claimed that President Trump "engaged in impeachable conduct," a fellow Republican has vowed to challenge him in the upcoming primary election.

Fox News reports Michigan state Rep. Jim Lower announced Monday that instead of seeking a third term in the state legislature, he will run against Amash for their party's nomination for the 2020 election.

Amash faced criticism after claiming in a tweet that Trump obstructed justice with regard to the Russia investigation.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Amash was simply looking for attention.

Lower said Amash’s comments show he is “out of touch with the truth and out of touch with the people he represents.”
